Yes, it's Full of Absurdity, Over-the-Top Hospitality and Self-Help Jargon. Yet I Truly Adore Meghan's Christmas Special.

No matter the time of year, it's always hunting season for commentary on the Duchess of Sussex's Netflix series, With Love, Meghan. Reviewers, expert and amateur alike, have seldom found such common ground as when eagerly tearing the series' initial installments to shreds. The general consensus held that a greater royal outrage had seldom occurred than the now-infamous pretzel-bagging incident.

Currently, like a merry renegade master, she is back once again with a "Festive Special" (aka a Christmas special). But this time, things have shifted. The usual elements viewers are accustomed to – psychobabble word salads, intense hospitality – persist, but framed of a Christmas special, the purpose becomes clear. The pieces have fallen into place; it's a ideal seasonal storm.

At this stage, Meghan is like the eccentric aunt at the typical holiday get-together – dispensing unsolicited, unnecessary advice, and supplying the occasional strange exclamation. ("I love spinach!" … "A tradition has to have a beginning." … "A tree is part of my memory and love of the holiday season.") She's quite a personality, but her presence is familiar and oddly reassuring. And she appears pleased; she's inflicting a bit of damage.

She knows her every micro expression, syllable and look will be picked apart and criticised, but still appears unburdened and remarkably at ease.

Maybe this is the only time in history where that clichéd phrase – "Ignore them, they're just jealous" – could actually be true. Since, let's face it, everything in Meghan's Holiday Celebration is charming. Granted, it's all awkwardly over-the-top, nonsense and extravagant – but isn't that just what Christmas is about? And the talk she's talking might be laughable, but the walk she's walking appears to be shop-bought.

Anything she turns her beautifully manicured, diamond-adorned hand to, she accomplishes with panache. Her culinary efforts looks tasty, the holiday arrangement she creates is breathtaking, her gifts are nearly too beautiful to open. Nothing is ordinary or aesthetically displeasing – even the way she fastens her apron is creative and fashionable. She doesn't bung a meal in the microwave, it "goes for a spin", and she folds wrapping paper like an origami guru. She also seems to be genuinely relishing herself throughout. How could any skeptical viewer not be convinced, filled with seasonal cheer and left with a deep longing for handmade crackers or a vegetable display where greens is organized in the likeness of a festive circle?

Meghan had a career in acting for a living, naturally, but even so, after the degree of attention she has weathered from the moment she met Prince Harry, even a hypothetical offspring of acting royalty would have difficulty behaving this authentically. Her decision to change or even soften her shtick, even though it being so relentlessly, globally mocked, is weirdly comforting. In our volatile world, here is something we can depend on: Meghan will remain herself, come what may. We will consistently know our position with her.

If you're remaining skeptical of what she's selling, a reminder that will certainly come as a reassurance: you are not obligated to. There isn't the draft anymore, and should it be reinstated, it would be doubtful to include streaming With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. If, conversely, you willingly check it out and are overcome with envy about her flawless Christmas, you can take solace either. If you are a duchess or a office worker, few children fully understands the dedication and labor their parent puts in in the holiday season. So you can take heart by picturing Archie and Lilibet's faces when they unfold a beautifully scripted letter that says, 'I love you because you are brave,' from a homemade Advent calendar, in place of a sweet treat.
