George Springer contributed to the Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their maiden World Series after the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the AL Championship Series.
Behind 3-1, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run home run in the seventh frame, guiding the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 series win in the seven-game series. Next up are the Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the upcoming championship.
"I'm just so happy for our team, our city, our country," commented Springer, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 title. "This is such an incredible feeling."
Springer has now slugged 23 October home runs, ranking him third in history trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that moment except for George Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.
Manager Dan Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's going to sting" following his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we had to come out on the wrong side of the series," he continued.
The Blue Jays secured the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the first game on Friday.
