A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The effort hopes to provide aid to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely let down if it fails to, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
The single was laid down in the wake of a solidarity show held in September. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.
The diverse array of artists contributing to Lullaby features a selection of well-known figures from the scene. All were part of the benefit event, which successfully generated a considerable total for charitable causes.
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of producers and composers. The single blends a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.
The team running the project have clarified that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These donations will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a figure said. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the region was noted for its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of infrastructure reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a handful of millions doesn’t make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is above all making this cause better known and proving that another narrative exists.”
The track is launching at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a digital service from mid-December.
