The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this charming family navigate their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to bask in the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
