Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few key changes:
So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are mad.
"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else details all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
If the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
