The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.

An upcoming six-part series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."

The previous season concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but official word only arrived recently.

New Challenges for AC-12

Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to production details.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."

New Character and Intricate Plot

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.

Yet, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.

In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had so many fans track the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new installment."

Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."

Cast Reactions

The Scottish actor described being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".

"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.

Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"

The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming next year."

"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."

Series Legacy

Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Stephen Graham.

Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will hit screens.

The finale of series six drew the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no plans for further series.

However, the corporation confirmed on this week that a new season is now being produced.
