New information has come to light concerning the untimely passing of acclaimed film director Rob Reiner and artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were discovered at their residence home on Sunday.
A source indicates citing a family associate, a practitioner arriving for an session was the first to notice something was wrong after being unable to gain access the home. The therapist then got in touch with the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides nearby.
When she went into the residence, Romy came upon her father's body. Reports state she then exited the property overwhelmed with grief, not realizing at that moment that her mother's body was there as well. A companion who had accompanied her promptly called 911. Afterward, emergency responders located Michele Singer Reiner's body.
The police have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of premeditated murder, along with the use of a dangerous weapon, reportedly a knife. He is now detained without bail.
The confidential informant also disputed several initial details. They said that while Romy Reiner informed emergency responders that her brother Nick lived in a guesthouse on the estate, she did not identify him as a suspect at that time.
Furthermore pushed back against published claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "apprehensive" about Nick's behavior in the weeks leading up to the incident. Rather the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."
This refutation also extends to reports of reportedly "unpredictable" behavior by Nick at a party held by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the bodies were found. While the source noted they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "scolded" his son at the party, they asserted that suggestions of a "major confrontation" between the two were not correct.
Per law enforcement officials, the coroner had yet to determine as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Some media reports suggested the condition of their bodies pointed to they had been deceased for some hours.
Nick Reiner was arrested at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park, some 15 miles from the residence. He was set to appear in court on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, said his client had a medical issue and would not appear until no sooner than Wednesday.
