The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that a future comeback is an option. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign that included continental glory and the Premier League crown in 30 years, now holds roles overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
They secured England's top flight under Arne Slot, but many fans holding him in high esteem would welcome the notion of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I stated I refuse to lead any other side within the country. So that means in case it's my former club...yes. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, that means the choice could be mine in a few years, I don’t know. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
Questioned regarding what circumstances must arise to draw him back to the touchline, he confessed he isn't eager for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “No longing for management; No desire to be during downpours through long matches; I'm glad to skip press conferences repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats each week.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad having a nice chat, is pleasant. With many victories meaning regularly great spirits at the club. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role for the adjustments which secured the championship last campaign. They've been defeated a string of losses across various tournaments post heavy investment, but he rubbished the idea that it might signal a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. An outstanding player. The French striker, excellent performer. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
He shared movingly about the death of Jota, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, along with the consequences at the club. Jota died tragically in a road accident together with his sibling in July.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the squad missing him. Putting it into words is tough about it. A devastating blow for his teammates also. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it for poor performances though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Coping with it individually is challenging. Overwhelming.”
