Arteta Praises a More Dependable Squad and Confirms Kai Havertz Injury Blow.

Mikel Arteta feels assured that his team can keep managing with injury setbacks following disclosing that forward Kai Havertz remains out for several more weeks.

Extended Absence for Havertz

The Germany international has been sidelined since August due to an operation on his knee. Hoped to come back sooner, the manager stated the player hit a snag when stepping up his training and failed to reach “the next phase.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a squad that is considerably steadier and has more options,” stated the manager.

Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture

This news presents a selection headache for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. Arteta must choose between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who scored as a makeshift striker against Chelsea, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who came back after a fitness issue off the bench. Defensive Concerns Linger

More doubts involve centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the weekend encounter. Consequently, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to start again in the heart of the defence for the Premier League front-runners.

Arteta feels the £250m spend on reinforcements in the last transfer window has resulted in a far better place to navigate such absences.

When asked if more options was benefiting their league challenge, his response was positive. “Yes, as this campaign has been worse in the attacking line, and now the situation with the backline,” he added.

“We learned from the past that we have to use players in different positions, and they have to be able to fulfil different roles if we are to fight at the top. And the instance of Mikel Merino.”
