A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
